While the impacts of this week’s local, state, and federal elections are uncertain, our path forward is not. The science behind what’s causing our changing climate is undeniable, and the solutions are clear: state governments will lead our nation’s response to the climate crisis and they are now more critical than ever.
Almost three-quarters of U.S. adults believe that global warming is happening, and there is even more support for policies that address climate change. In the absence of ambitious federal leadership to deal with the climate crisis in the next four years, states must lead the effort and continue to mandate ambitious greenhouse gas targets, enact comprehensive climate plans, ensure environmental justice, and set the stage for long-term climate success in ways that meet the urgency of the moment.
The path to passing effective policies has never been an easy one, but Climate XChange remains committed to bringing the fight to state capitals across the country. Since our founding, we have worked tirelessly to help state actors advance climate policies. We believe that policies based on science and facts can create achievable emissions reductions that lead to a cleaner and brighter future.
While we can feel overwhelmed and powerless during moments of uncertainty, we must move forward on climate policy and focus on actions that drive meaningful change. At Climate XChange, we stand ready to work with state actors on climate policies backed by science, regardless of political affiliation.
To take action, you can find information and support through our State Climate Policy Dashboard and State Climate Policy Network.
The State Climate Policy Dashboard is a unique tool that supports state actors in advancing ambitious and effective climate policy. This comprehensive database provides a landscape of policy progress across all 50 states, with information and critical resources on 62 different climate mitigation policies across seven sectors. The Dashboard was designed to empower lawmakers, regulators, executive branch officials, and advocates to craft the most impactful state-level climate policies.
The State Climate Policy Network gathers more than 15,000 advocates and policymakers across the country who are pushing for effective and equitable climate policies in their states. We provide tools, resources, and interpersonal connections to help advance campaigns and increase cross-state collaboration.
We also provide pro bono policy assistance to state actors using the expertise of our Policy and Research team. We have supported advocates across the country with bill drafting, technical design, landscape analyses, example states, model laws, and other research goals. If we can’t help you, we’ll utilize our State Climate Policy Network to connect you with others who can. Reach out to our team for policy assistance.
While we hope that the incoming administration prioritizes solutions for the climate crisis, Climate XChange is doubling down on our commitment to help states across the country take action. We’re ready to work with you.
With renewed resolve,
