Elise is a second-year student at the University of Virginia, pursuing Bachelor’s degrees in Environmental Thought & Practice and Data Analytics. Passionate about all things related to environmental justice, she spent time in Nepal before starting college, working with a Nepali activist to address issues of environmental degradation, climate change, and social inequity in the Everest Region. During this time she was able to combine her love of backpacking with her commitment to fighting climate change and using her voice to amplify those of marginalized communities. Elise currently works on a student-run GIS research team, contributing to projects centered around global development and renewable energy. She is also engaged with the UVA Office of Sustainability and Species Extinction Club. A life-long violinist, Elise also tutors aspiring musicians from schools around her area and performs in a string quartet. In her free time, Elise enjoys growing her plant collection, swimming, and fostering kittens.
