Transportation is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. With unprecedented federal transportation investments of around $200 billion across nearly 300 programs through the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, it’s essential that states are well-equipped to equitably distribute this funding. State-level transportation investment policy and programs must ensure that communities are effectively engaged and work in tandem with state governmental actors to deploy this funding where it is most needed.
Harnessing the vast knowledge of longstanding climate- and equity-aligned transportation actors is fundamental to identifying and scaling best practices and lessons learned across state lines. We invited a panel of experts focusing on research, community organizing, and state governments to share their experiences in equitable state transportation investment.Â
