Our State-By-State Guide

The first step to writing an effective LTE is targeting the publication where you’d like your letter published. From there, you can see if there are any restrictions on the length of your piece and who you should send it to.

Below is a list of publications by state:

Arkansas

Arkansas TimesLeading source of news and politics in Arkansas. No word limit for LTE’s.

Jonesboro SunRegional newspaper of Northeast Arkansas with ~80,000 daily readers. LTE’s are limited to 350 words.

Baxter Bulletin: Serves Baxter County and surrounding area. LTE’s are limited to 500 words.

Pine Bluff Commercial: Southeast Arkansas’ leading newspaper.

California

Los Angeles Times: California’s largest news source. LTE’s are limited to 150 words. Editorials vary in length but most are about 750 words.

San Jose Mercury News: Reaches the South Bay area. No word limit for LTE’s.

San Diego Union Tribune: Largest newspaper in San Diego region. Email for news tips and general inquiries. No word limit.

San Francisco Chronicle: San Francisco/Bay area paper with 22 million monthly readers. LTE’s are limited to 200 words.

Sacramento Bee: Top news source for CA’s capital city and surrounding area. LTE’s are limited to 150 words. Longer articles can be sent to opinion@sacbee.com.

Orange County Register: Top news source for OC area. There is no limit to LTE’s, but those around 200 words will be given preference.

Fresno Bee: Leading new source for Central CA and San Joaquin Valley. LTE’s are limited to 200 words.

Connecticut

Hartford Courant: CT’s largest news source. LTE’s are limited to 200 words.

Pueblo Chieftain: Leading source for the Puebla area. LTE’s are limited to 250 words.

Greeley Tribune: Northern Colorado’s top new source. LTE’s are limited to 300, guest columns are limited to 600 words.
